According to a report in Republic, on Thursday, an affidavit accessed by the channel stated that the Centre has asked for a CBI probe into the Sushant Singh Rajput death investigation. The report stated that the affidavit was a reply filed by the Centre in the Supreme Court after the latest hearing in Rhea Chakraborty’s plea. The report stated that in the reply filed by the Centre, it is mentioned how two cases on the same issue were not pending in two states of Bihar and Maharashtra, anymore.

Meanwhile, the Centre pointed out how the Maharashtra Police has not filed an FIR in Sushant Singh Rajput’s case as of yet. The report stated that the Centre argued that the 56 statements recorded by the Maharashtra Police had no backing in law in the absence of 'investigation'. The reply filed by the Centre also mentioned that the state police can lodge an FIR and then start an investigation. Moving on, in the affidavit, the Centre maintained that there is no ‘case pending’ with the Maharashtra police as none of the steps mentioned, required before filing the FIR were taken by the police. After stating the reasons, the Centre asked the SC to let the CBI investigate the case and asked to not pass any observations which will 'impede the ED's ongoing investigation'.
